The “Food, Fun and Sun!” Contest is in full swing and submissions are rolling in to beat the submission deadline of August 20. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service launched the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Story and Photo contest as a way to collect promising practices of the SFSP around the four target categories of the contest:
- Recruiting and using volunteers to support SFSP
- Serving meals to older children (ages 12-18)
- Programs that serve meals in rural areas
- Programs that are extremely creative
If you are a SFSP sponsor or site – enter the contest now! Submit your story about how your summer site or program excels in one (or more) of these four categories. Do you have a unique or successful way of recruiting or utilizing volunteers to help run your SFSP? Tell us about it! Do you have a way you reach older kids and draw them to your program? Submit your story! Are you in a rural area and have had success overcoming the SFSP challenges faced in rural areas? Share what you have done! Are you just flat out creative and have an awesome SFSP story to share? Send it in! Be sure to include two of your best photos. We want to tell the rest of the country about your success.
Contest submissions should be in the form of a 200-400 word narrative (your story) accompanied by two photos. Finalists will be posted on the contest website where a public vote will determine Winners and Honorable Mentions. Winners will be honored and recognized nationally.
