June is Homeownership Month in America.
Earlier this month, representatives of Native American Tribes traveled from as far away as Massachusetts to Anchorage, Alaska, to attend the three-day National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) Conference. Now in its 38th year, the main theme was housing which is a basic human need.
The NAIHC’s Annual Conference and Trade Show is the largest gathering of Tribal housing professionals in the country. The conference venue was the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center located in downtown Anchorage.
A wide variety of federal agencies including USDA joined private sector business representatives to provide highly instructive training seminars for attendees. The vendors had the opportunity to network to establish relationships and learn about the myriad programs available from so many participating agencies.
Cathy Milazzo is a Single Family Home Loan Specialist with Alaska’s Rural Development Housing Programs team and gave an educational presentation on Rural Housing Programs. Tedd Buelow, Rural Development’s Tribal Affairs Coordinator, also presented along with Thomas Wright, Director of Loan Guarantee from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
