Staff from the Colorado State Offices of the Farm Service Agency, Food and Nutrition Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Rural Development have joined forces in support of the People’s Garden “Share Your Harvest” Campaign. For a second year, the agencies have partnered with the Clever Kids Learning Center on the Denver Federal Center to host a garden. Staff rotates watering and harvesting duties to ensure maximum participation. Some of the crops planted include tomatoes, lettuce, peas, artichokes, and squash.
Produce from the garden is being provided to the JeffCo Action Center. For more than 40 years, JeffCo Action Center, a human-service non-profit, has stood as a beacon of hope to the homeless, near homeless and working poor of Jefferson County. It has help thousands of families and individuals break the cycle of poverty and improve their lives and their community. Last year the Colorado State Office agencies provided over 90 pounds of produce to the Action Center.
In addition to the people’s garden, the USDA Colorado State Office Service Center is combining their efforts in the Feds Feed Families Campaign. Collection bins will be placed in each of the three agencies and the Food Bank of the Rockies will be the ultimate recipient for all can goods donated.
