Today, I’m proud to announce the launch of two more FSIS food safety tools designed especially to meet the needs of our Spanish-speaking community: Pregúntele a Karen and Twitter in Spanish. With these resources, FSIS can provide consumers with the latest, up-to-date information on recalls and safe food handling tips in Spanish. Pregúntele a Karen (Ask Karen) is a virtual food safety representative that can lead live Chats in Spanish sharing food safety information.
The FSIS Twitter page has over 60,000 followers. With the launch of this new tool, we are eager to watch our Spanish Twitter account take off and I encourage folks to start following us at http://www.twitter.com/usdafoodsafe_es.
FSIS employs a large number of Hispanic and Spanish-speaking employees, including bilingual outreach employees and uniformed public health service officers. They provide vitally important food safety communications roles by writing news releases, fact sheets and other educational material in Spanish.
